So, I arrived in the United States at 23.
My only ambition was to start my own business ; I simply had no idea where I was going.
Backpacking, of course, without speaking a word of English. I had no vocabulary, but I knew some grammar from school, which helped a little.

I started with what I knew how to do, which was interior decorating. Little things I knew, like applying patina. Here’s a patina — that’s what got me going.

I applied a patina to a homeowner who loved it. She told her friends about it, and from one thing to another, BAM, I became the French Designer I hadn’t planned on being at all.
She dubbed me a French Designer.

My business partners were mostly American real estate agents, and I was with them very often.
Back then, we didn’t have cell phones, so the agents were constantly hovering around their offices to check their messages and continue working. So I would go with them, and when the phone rang, busy on their end, they would ask me to answer it so they wouldn’t miss the call.

I had the client ; I had to manage the conversation.
I started talking a little and realized that what I was saying wasn’t really nonsense.

That’s when it king of clicked, it was when I realized, “Ah, there it is. Instead of being an interior designer, a role I’d been given, I was actually going to pursue something that seemed interesting.”

So I got my license. I became a Real Estate Agent and worked for a broker.
Later, I got my Broker’s License to solidify my expertise.
And here’s what happened.

It wasn’t planned at all ; I became a Real Estate Agent.
And in Miami, no less…
Who would have known…
Who would have believed it !
